Hello REIN members;

My husband and I reside in Peterborough Ontario. We are considering REIN membership and would be really interested in hearing from current REIN members about their experience. Specifically, how can we expect membership in REIN to benefit us if we have already begun purchasing investment properties? We did attend the Toronto Quickstart workshop in April of 2008 - what would membership in Rein offer in addition to that? Do you feel membership is worth both the financial and time committment? Anything that you wish to share with us would be appreciated. We are interested in hearing from everyone, but would be particularly interested in anyone who may reside in close proximity to Peterborough. I look forward to any and all feedback. Feel free to email me at darlene.evans@cogeco.ca

Thanks in advance

If your desire is to grow your business on the right footing and stay on top of what is going on in our market place then REIN is of great value. Yes it is not cheap to belong but what business doesn`t have "trade" membership costs? Having regular access to people in the know is invaluable. All the benefits do not come from the stage, the interaction between members is just as important. I had several properties when I joined but joining sooner would have been better.

Hi Darlene;

What a great opportunity you have in front of you, to rub shoulders with 3,000 other like minded real estate investors across Canada. Greg has posted a terrific link that will probably answer every one of your questions. But, let me add one comment, because I do not recall replying to that original post.

I have had a 30+ year career in this industry. I have taken numerous courses and seminars over the years, and have belonged to several professional organizations. Never in my career have I come across a group that is as helpful for someone with my level of knowledge as I have with REIN. I often get asked this question, and my reply is always the same. If it is helpful to me, I can only imagine how helpful it must be to those just getting into the industry.

I have made sure that both my son and life partner have taken the ACRE weekend training. If you knew me, you would understand what a compliment that is to REIN, because I cannot recommend something I do not believe in.

Hi Darlene,
I too had some reservations about joining REIN, mostly because I had spent alot of money with another RE training organization. I can tell you from personal experience REIN is less than half the cost of what I had previously spent and about 10 times better. The main benefits my wife and I get are the networking with like minded people and great support accross the board. This is huge when you are starting out. The amount of research available is second to none and all in one place. I also like the all Canadian content and the monthly workshops. Even if you can`t make it to Toronto, you will still get the material sent to you. I have been in your situation and can say that it is well worth the money. Think of it this way, you can make up for the membership cost by avoiding just one mistake with this education and support.

Good luck,

Gord

I also am from Peterborough, now live in Bethany. My first 3 properties were pre-REIN and are in Ptbo. It took me 10 years to do that. I thought I was finished. I couldn`t get mortgages. I have bought 10 properties in 18 months since joining REIN and am trying to sell 1 of my 2 remaining pre-REIN properties so that I can use that capital to purchase the way I am now.
I wish I had joined REIN before I bought any properties.
Would have saved me alot of pain + time + $$$$

One advantage that being a REIN member has, which I completely forgot about in my earlier post, is the Group Insurance policy we have. If you have a multiple unit portfolio, say more than 6 doors, that will pay your REIN dues, and then some.

There is rumour of more group benefits coming down the road.

I think it`s pretty simple, and I like numbers. Multiply the impact of this discussion site by 100 and you`ll have a good sense of the value of a REIN membership.

Thank you to all of you who responded to my post regarding the benefits of REIN and assisting me in completing my due diligence. I am convinced that this would be a very beneficial group to be involved with - I will be sending in my application today. I hope I have the opportunity to meet each of you at some point in time. Cheers!
